Dog-Friendly Beaches Wales

Rhossili Beach, Swansea

Wales is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK and the best part? Many of them welcome dogs all year round! Whether you're after a windswept bay for zoomies or a quiet cove for a paddle, there’s no shortage of sandy spots to explore with your pup.

That said, some beaches do have seasonal dog restrictions, especially during the summer months. These rules are set by local authorities and can change from time to time, so it’s always worth checking the relevant council website before heading out.

Please remember to be a responsible dog walker by following the Countryside Code and the Dog Walking Code. Many beaches are shared spaces with wildlife, livestock, and other visitors, so keeping dogs under control and cleaning up after them is essential.

WARNING: Not all beaches in Wales have a lifeguard on patrol. It’s important to check local information and stay aware of the risks, from strong currents and tides to sharp rocks and fast-changing weather. Always put safety first, for both you and your dog.

South Wales Favourites

Rhossili, Swansea

One of Wales’ most iconic beaches, with three miles of golden sand and dramatic coastal views. Dogs are welcome all year, making it the perfect spot for off-lead zoomies or a relaxed seaside stroll.

At low tide, you can spot the remains of the Helvetia shipwreck, and from the cliffs above, take in views of Worm’s Head — a tidal island that’s reachable on foot when the tide is right. Whether you're here for the walk, the waves, or the wildlife, Rhossili never disappoints.

North Wales Favourites

Black Rock Sands, Gwynedd

Black Rock Sands is one of North Wales’ most popular beaches, stretching for miles at low tide with breathtaking views towards Criccieth Castle and Snowdonia. One of its most unique features is the ability to drive your car directly onto the sand, making it easy to set up for the day or bring water sports equipment right to the shoreline.

Facilities include toilets, a shop, and a slipway. While there are seasonal restrictions for dogs, a large area remains dog-friendly year-round, making this a firm favourite for families, walkers, and four-legged adventurers alike
