Route
The Mynydd Llangorse Circular is a scenic walking route in Powys, Wales, offering panoramic views across the Brecon Beacons National Park. Mynydd Llangorse itself is a 515m (1,690ft) hill that sits above Llangorse Lake — the largest natural lake in South Wales.
Starting from a small lay-by, big enough for 3–4 cars, the route follows grassy footpaths. The initial section takes you through quiet farmland before beginning a steady climb up the flanks of Mynydd Llangorse. As you gain height, sweeping views open up towards the Black Mountains, the Central Beacons, and over to the shimmering waters of Llangorse Lake.
The summit area is broad and open, with a trig point marking the top. A perfect spot to pause, enjoy a snack, and take in the 360-degree views.
Underfoot, expect a mixture of grass, dirt paths, and occasional rocky patches. While the gradients are generally steady, there are a few short, steeper sections on the ascent and descent. The walk is fully exposed on the upper slopes, so be prepared for the wind, and it can become boggy after rain.
This circular walk offers a rewarding balance of accessible distance and impressive views, making it a great choice for anyone looking to enjoy the quieter side of the Brecon Beacons while still ticking off a summit with a trig point.
