Route

This circular route is a fantastic way to experience some of Eryri’s dramatic mountain scenery, combining a steep climb, rewarding summits, and airy descents.

From the car park, the walk begins with a relentless climb up the side of Y Garn. The ascent is steep and sustained but not technical, with a clear path leading all the way to the top. To officially bag the summit, make a short detour left to the wind shelter before retracing your steps back to the main route.

The trail then eases off as it continues towards Foel Goch, with a more gradual descent and rolling terrain. Along the way you’ll encounter a few awkward stiles, though better-placed ladder stiles appear further along.

The descent from Foel Goch brings sweeping views but also sections of exposed path close to the cliff edge. In good weather this makes for an exhilarating finish, but in poor conditions it’s best approached with caution.

Overall, this is a demanding yet highly rewarding hike with two summits to tick off, dramatic views over the Glyderau and Ogwen Valley, and a real sense of adventure throughout.
