Information
We’re big believers in the power of hydrotherapy. It’s something we introduced into Riley’s routine from a young age because we wanted her to feel totally relaxed in the environment. From the sounds and smells to the friendly faces, we wanted every visit to feel like a positive experience. Not only has it helped with her general fitness, but it also meant she was confident and comfortable in the water when we really needed it.
Hydrotherapy is a therapeutic treatment that makes the most of all the amazing benefits of water to help with pain, swelling, stiffness and other niggles your dog might be feeling. It provides a non-weight bearing or partially weight bearing environment, which means dogs can move more freely, especially if they’re recovering from injury or feeling a bit off. It’s completely non-invasive and can be a gentle, calming way to help them get back to feeling like themselves again.
We’ve seen firsthand the difference it can make. In early 2025, Riley picked up an injury, and her regular sessions played a huge part in spotting the issue early. With a mix of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy, we got her back to full health and back to doing what she loves most — exploring the Welsh mountains!
But it’s not just for recovery. Hydro is brilliant for keeping dogs in tip top condition at any age. For older pups, it offers a low impact way to stay active without putting strain on sore joints. And for younger, energetic dogs, it’s a great way to build their overall fitness, keeping them at their peak and ready for the next adventure. It helps support healthy joints, build strength, and can even prevent injuries before they happen.

A vet referral is required for all hydrotherapy sessions, but Westmac Canine Therapies will take care of this on your behalf.
