Are you confident you have the right knowledge and skills for the hike?

Always check the mountain forecast as the weather can change suddenly in the mountains

Ensure you have the correct clothing (be prepared for all conditions)

Make sure you have enough water and food (including snacks). It is worth carry extra for emergencies!

Don't rely on your mobile phone, it is worth knowing how to read an OS map and carrying one

If you are predominately using a mobile phone app, ensure the route is downloaded for offline use and you have a ​​​portable charger

Download what3words, this works without phone signal and can be crucial in an emergency

Tell someone where you are going and how long you expect to be

Carry a torch and whistle - great to attract attention if needed

Always carry a first aid kit

TOP TIPS FOR PET OWNERS

Make sure your dog is capable of the journey and, if any scrambling is involved, they're comfortable with these conditions

Check the weather! If it's going to be warm, think about setting off early

Ensure you have the right equipment for your dog (warm coat, waterproofs, booties etc.)

Ensure you carry enough water. Check if the route has any natural water sources as this is always helpful for warmer days. Not only can they drink from them, but they may also be able to have a swim

Dogs will likely need to be on lead, especially on ridges

First aid kit! We also carry an emergency evacuation sling

Carry a spare lead incase yours breaks
