Yr Wyddfa 'Snowdon'

Pyg & Miners

Snowdon

Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) has an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level, which makes it the highest mountain in Wales

A beautiful route that allows you to do a loop rather than an out and back.

The path is signposted from the car park and fairly obvious the whole way to the summit.  Near the summit, the path narrows and light scrambling is required, but I can assure you the views are worth it.  You start heading back the way you came but, instead of following the Pyg track back to the car park, you drop down toward Llyn Llydaw and follow the track around the lake and past old copper mine buildings.  The turn off is not overly obvious, so you may need to check your route to ensure you're on the right path.

Where to park?

Parking start point: 53.08043° N, 4.02063° W

If Pen-y-pass car park is full, there are a number of nearby options.  Please do not park on the roadside at Pen-y-pass. This is a clearway so parking is illegal and, if you do so, you are likely to have your vehicle towed away.

Pre-booking is required during peak season (usually April-November).

Facilities

Information panel, toilets and small cafe at Pen-y-pass car park

Summit visit centre is normally open spring to October.  Café offers 'grab and go' sandwich options and toilet facilities

Important information for pet owners

Plenty of dogs walk Yr Wyddfa but please ensure they have prior experience with rocky terrain and light scrambles.  This is a tough walk, so you want to ensure their fitness is capable of the journey.

There are a few water sources for your furry companion and no stiles on this route.

*It’s always best to keep your dog on a lead as Eryri National Park is home to rare wildlife and all sorts of livestock.

Nesting season is between March 1st to July 31st each year and on open access land, dogs are required to be on lead by law.
