Wheelwright’s Shop, Walcot Hall

Shropshire

If you’re dreaming of a peaceful countryside escape full of charm, character, and long dog walks, the Wheelwrights Shop at Walcot Hall is the perfect hideaway.

Set within the picturesque Walcot Hall Estate, this quirky 1840s cottage blends rustic history with homely comfort, making it an ideal base for exploring Shropshire with your four-legged friend.

Inside, the cottage is beautifully furnished with warm, thoughtful touches - exposed beams, stone floors, and vintage décor that hints at its former life. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious living area with a wood burner for slow, cosy evenings, and a comfortable bedroom overlooking the peaceful courtyard. You won’t find WiFi here, but that’s part of the charm. Instead, the cottage is stocked with plenty of board games and a small TV if you’re missing a hint of twenty first-century life. It’s the perfect environment to truly switch off, slow down, and enjoy some proper relaxation.

Beyond the cottage, you have 30 acres of estate grounds to explore including woodlands, lakes, an arboretum, and endless paths to wander straight from your doorstep. It’s a paradise for anyone who loves slow mornings, peaceful strolls, or heading out into the nearby Shropshire Hills.

And when it comes to food, you’re in luck. The estate’s own pub, The Powis Arms, is just a short stroll away. With hearty meals, a welcoming atmosphere, and a lovely beer garden for those sunny afternoons, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring.

Walcot Hall also offers a range of unique accommodation and serves as a popular wedding venue, giving the whole estate a wonderfully lively yet peaceful charm.

Whether you're escaping for a romantic weekend, celebrating something special, or simply craving a quiet break in nature, Wheelwrights Shop is a delightful place to unwind, recharge, and enjoy the slower pace of Shropshire life.

Dogs are welcome throughout the estate and there are plenty of lovely walks right from the cottage door.

The Wheelwrights Shop has its own enclosed outdoor area, but the traditional estate fencing isn’t fully escape-proof, especially for smaller or determined dogs. You’ll also meet some friendly neighbours in the field directly in front of the cottage - a pig and a goat who happily potter around. For dogs who are prone to wandering or chasing livestock, bringing a long line is highly recommended to keep everyone safe and relaxed during your stay

Nearby walks

For a short weekend break, you could quite easily spend your time exploring the magic of the Walcot Hall estate itself.

One of the most popular spots nearby is Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd, less than 20 minutes away
